Danni O’Lenci

a.k.a. Nicole Danielle is a freelance author and artist from Utah. Her fascinations lie in the history of her predominantly Scottish heritage, applying traditions and folklore to her writing.

Working With the Author

In 2020, I embarked on my journey as a freelancer while still working at my local public library. At that time, I had not yet decided on the specific services I would offer as a freelancer, but I knew that I wanted to work remotely. Eventually, I decided to offer proofreading and virtual assistant services and began my freelancing journey on Upwork. The first project I was hired for was to proofread a middle-grade fantasy novel for a new author.

From January to March 2020, I worked with Danni O’Lenci to proofread her fantasy novel titled The Ruins of Parnice.

Details of Our Work

Danni had written a 116,000-word fantasy novel geared toward readers ages 16-25 and was looking for a proofreader to correct basic spelling, grammar, and punctuation. On Upwork, she had made the job posting seen below.

After we discussed the project and I provided an example of my proofreading work for review, we agreed to work together and decided on a contract completion date of March 6, 2020.

Key Results From Working Together

I proofread Danni's novel for around nine weeks using Google Docs. During the proofreading process, I provided clear and constructive feedback on the story's progression, character development, and consistency. Although my role evolved more of a copyeditor, it being my first professional freelancing job, I wanted to guarantee that Danni received high-quality work. Additionally, I became invested in the story and desired her novel to be the best it could be for her readers.

We completed the project in March 2020, and in June of the same year, she published the novel through Kindle Direct Publishing.

As of October 2023, the book has a 4.7-star rating on Amazon and numerous positive reviews.
